[art]itecture

[Art]itecture features the artwork of three artists, educated and professionally trained in architecture. Currently working in Lighting Design, Project Management, and Art Fabrication, these artists use their knowledge in architecture to inform their art pieces. Purposefully detaching from the scrutiny of the architectural practice, these three women freely create artwork that challenges the characteristics of various traditional  media . This show presents a wide range of visual art techniques, from abstraction to representation, influenced by pop Culture, design, color theory, and, of course, architecture.

Anabelle Del Valle

Studied Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona.  Art and Urban Design Residencies in Copenhagen and Rotterdam. Researcher in Urbanism at Delft University in the Netherlands with emphasis on Urban Development and Design. Her work has been featured in various galleries in Los Angeles. She uses collage, recycled images, and materials in various media and platforms, navigating between representational imagery and abstraction. The mixed media images are constructed by designing in layers and superimposing formalizing grids to create pattern. Informed by architectural design and commercial art the artwork at times becomes tridimensional. Through the use of collage and geometry, balanced compositions are found between images, shapes, and fields of repetitive pattern. The use of recycled magazines and everyday objects stems from an interest in mass production and questions the significance of an original piece.
